Female Mutilation: Man Accused His Kinsmen of Diabolical Attack On His Nuclear Family

Female Genital Mutilation is a practice that is prevalent in Ondo Community of Nigeria.

Despite several awareness campaign by Non-Governmental Organizations to sensitize people about the danger of such practice. It will surprise many of our readers that the people of many communities in Ondo State in Nigeria still indulge in this barbaric act.

In an interview with some of the Community leaders in Aduwo compound of Araromi Obu community of Ode Irele Local Government Area, Ondo State about the ugly incidence of 5th August, 2022 within Fasadeju Family of Araromi Ode Irele LG of Ondo State.

One of the family member; Mr Agboola Emmanuel accused the Family head in Aduwo Compound of diiabolical attack on his nuclear family. Because of his refusal to his Daughter circumcition by the family head.

A prominent Non-Governmental Organization has taken up the case to see to the safety of life and property of Mr Agboola Emmanuel.

The Native of that community still hold firmly the tradition of circumcision.

Here are some of the extracts from the interview with some community leaders and family heads:

One of the community leader and family head of Aduwo compound; Chief Fasadeju Agboola opined that the act of circumcision is part of their identification with their fore fathers.

He said: It is the norms and tradition of our people and we cannot throw away our tradition as a people.

Not because of some foreign religion and lifestyle.’’

He further expressed that the act has evolved and it is now done in an hygienic way for both Female and Male Child.

Other community leaders and chief who chose to be anonymous buttress the point that promiscuity is rampant with the westerners and non-natural affection/intimacy like nudity, homosexual, zoophilia, lesbianism etc’’

The aforementioned points were said to defend the practice of female genital mutilation.

Conversely, many Sons and Daughters of Araromi Obu community and other communities like ilaje ese odo, Owo, Oba, Afo and ifon in this part of western Nigeria are kicking against the act vehemently which made those that are custodian of the tradition of the people to be taking forceful and diabolical ways of getting thing done done in respect to female genital mutilation.

Prominent NGO’s in the country have severally condemn the act of genital mutilation and written petitions to the lawmaker for enforcement of the law against the act.
