The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman-elect of Atiba Local Government, Offa-meta Oyo, Hon. Wahab Waliu Adetunji Wabkem, has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of an illustrious son of Òyó land and former chairman of the First Bank of Nigeria, the late Prince Sulaiman Ajibola Afonja (IDS).
In a statement released to the press, the Royal Council Chairman-elect described the passing of Prince Ajibola Afonja as a great shock. He hailed the late prince as a doyen of the people, an icon, a mentor, and a role model to many.
Wabkem further highlighted the late prince’s love for Oyo town. As the CEO of Integrated Dimensional Systems (IDS), Prince Afonja’s legacy of generosity and open-heartedness touched countless lives. His name will forever be written in gold in the annals of history.
“No one has ever championed the cause of Òyó’s progress, supported promising young talent, wooed investors, or made pioneering efforts as an industrialist to reshape the image of the Oyo empire as a socialist economy like he did. His love for education and community development, among other contributions, is inspiring.”
“Uncle Jibola Afonja came; he did, and he has gone. It is not about how long, but how well he lived. The legacy he left is an indelible mark for many generations to come.”
“He touched so many lives; his philanthropic gestures knew no bounds. May Almighty Allah grant him Alijana Fridaus (Aamin),” he prayed.
The Chairman-elect also extended his condolences to the family, praying they have the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
