The Oyo State Government has scheduled the state burial ceremony for the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, for Saturday, June 1, 2024.
This event marks the first in a series of activities leading to the coronation of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, as reported exclusively by The Populist News on Wednesday.
The position became vacant after Oba Balogun passed away at 81, following a two-year reign.
The state burial will be held at the main bowl of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan, the state capital.
Following the burial, the date for Oba Olakulehin’s coronation will be officially announced.
Last month, the Ibadan kingmakers submitted Oba Olakulehin’s name to Governor Seyi Makinde through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth coronation ceremony.
Additionally, the newly constructed multimillion-naira Olubadan Palace at Oke Aremo in Ibadan North Local Government Area will be inaugurated two days before the yet-to-be-fixed coronation date.
