The Chairman, House Committee on Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Cybersecurity, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, has pledged his committee’s support for the growth and development of the ICT sector in Nigeria.
Hon. Olajide made this pledge during an oversight visit to the headquarters of Galaxy Backbone in Abuja, where he inspected the agency’s facilities and met with its management team.
A statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Adedeji Olajide (Odidiomo), said the visit which is part of the oversight functions of the House committee on Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity chaired by Hon. Olajide provided an opportunity for the committee to assess Galaxy Backbone’s performance and identify areas that require improvement, also demonstrated the committee’s commitment to promoting the growth and development of the ICT sector in Nigeria.
Galaxy Backbone is a leading ICT infrastructure and service provider in Nigeria, established to provide network infrastructure and services to government agencies, institutions, and the private sector.
During the visit, Hon. Olajide commended Galaxy Backbone for its efforts in promoting digital transformation in Nigeria, particularly in the areas of e-government, e-education, and e-health.
He acknowledged the agency’s role in providing reliable and secure network services to government agencies, institutions, and the private sector and also expressed concerns about the agency’s funding, which he believed was inadequate to meet its growing demands and responsibilities.
According to Hon. Olajide, “We recognize the critical role that Galaxy Backbone plays in promoting digital transformation in Nigeria”.
“We will work with the agency to address its funding challenges, enhance its infrastructure, and build its capacity to deliver quality services to its customers”.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, thanked Hon. Olajide and his team for the visit.
He highlighted the agency’s achievements, challenges, and future plans, and sought the committee’s support in addressing its funding challenges.
The committee later inspected some of the agency’s facilities, including its data center, network operation center, and cybersecurity lab.
In attendance during the visit were members of the House Committee on ICT, officials of Galaxy Backbone, and other stakeholders in the ICT sector.
