The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, has recognized Professor Wasiu Babatunde Akanbi of Crop Production and Soil Science for his outstanding, valuable contributions to the university and academic communities.

Prof. Akanbi, who made history being the first lecturer in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to receive proper recognition, was presented an honorary award along with nine other professors in recognition of their significant contributions to research, teaching, mentoring, creative activities, and topping the list of researchers with the highest Google Scholar citation.

The varsity top ten scholars were honored on Tuesday at the grand finale of the 16th convocation ceremony of the university held at The Great Hall.

They were Prof. Bello Oluwagbenga Solomon, Pure and Applied Chemistry; Prof. Lateef Agbaje, Pure and Applied Biology; Prof. Azeez Adewuyi, Pure and Applied Biology; Prof. Ade-Omowaye Iyabo Olayemi, Food Science; Prof. Agarry Enahoro, Chemical Engineering; Prof. Oloke Kola, Pure and Applied Biology; Prof. Amuda Sarafadeen, Pure and Applied Chemistry; Prof. Yekeen Akangbe; Pure and Applied Biology, Prof. Ayodele Edward, Medicine; and Prof. W.B Akanbi of Crop Production and Soil Science.

During presentation of the award, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, commended the top ten researchers with the highest Google scholar citation for their dedication and hard work.

According to him, the awardees are instrumental to the success of students in the institution and making the university leading in higher education at the state and National levels.

Prof. Kalilu however wished them more remarkable achievements and charged them to continue putting the institution on global page.

Speaking with journalists, Professor Wasiu Akanbi, who expressed his profound gratitude to Almighty Allah and the university management for the recognition, said the award is a milestone and a challenge for him to continue elevating LAUTECH to a global level.

He said: “I was very humbled to receive the award from LAUTECH management. While I congratulate my colleagues for this outstanding feat, I wish to keep working hard to make the institution a cynosure of all eyes and be known through out the world.”
