During a recent session at the Oyo State House of Assembly presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi, Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel, representing Ibadan North Constituency 2, delivered a passionate plea. Amid discussions on enhancing security measures in public schools, Hon. Babajide redirected attention to a critical aspect often overlooked: the attitude of secondary and primary school pupils towards government amenities.

The motion to discuss this matter was moved by Hon. Dawood Olalere, representing Ibadan North West State Constituency. Seconding the motion was Hon. Babalola, a member representing Ibadan North East Constituency 1.

In his contribution during the assembly plenary, Hon. Babajide underscored the necessity for a sustained campaign of attitudinal sensitization among students.

He emphasized that maintaining government facilities within schools should not solely rely on security measures but also on fostering a sense of responsibility among the pupils themselves.

“Providing security for our schools is essential, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle,” Hon. Babajide asserted. “We must consistently educate our students on the importance of safeguarding and preserving the amenities provided through taxpayers’ funds.”

Highlighting the role of the Ministry of Education and Information, he proposed collaborative efforts to instill a culture of respect and ownership among the youth.

“We need to instill in our pupils the understanding that good attitude breeds success,” he remarked, stressing the long-term benefits of cultivating positive behaviors early on.

Hon. Babajide’s call for attitudinal sensitization signals a proactive approach towards nurturing responsible citizens and ensuring the longevity of public infrastructure in Oyo State.
