Residents of Jimoh Folorunsho Street in Boroboro Community have expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Joseph Oyekola, for the reconstruction of the abandoned Jimoh-Folorunsho Street bridge in Atiba Local Government Area.
Alhaji Abdul Azeez Abdullahi gave the commendation during an on-the-spot assessment of the reconstruction.
He lauded the lawmaker for his pragmatic efforts to restore ease of movement for people after its long abandonment, describing it as unprecedented, timely, and a welcome development.
“This completed bridge will not only assist in the smooth flow of vehicular movement but also have a positive impact on business and commercial activities in the metropolis, as Folorunsho Street serves as a link to other streets within the community,” he stated.
He further noted that the bridge was constructed at the dawn of democracy in 1999 when the lawmaker served as the elected executive Chairman of Atiba Local Government.
Since then, the bridge has been crucial to the socioeconomic development of the area.
Recalling their efforts for help towards reconstruction, he said, “We consulted the council Chairman for reconstruction in a formal letter, but all our efforts resulted in nothing. At one point, a career officer from Atiba Local Government visited, taking pictures and others, but all efforts to bring smiles to our faces proved abortive.”
“To our surprise, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola responded to our plea, promised to reconstruct it within two to four weeks, and to our astonishment, all materials for the job were procured, and work commenced immediately,” he added.
Similarly, Mr. Ayoola Hammad Idowu described the efforts of the lawmaker representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, as crucial in the efforts toward the growth, progress, and socioeconomic development of the community and the constituency as a whole.
He emphasized the joy felt by the community upon learning of the reconstruction of the Jimoh Folorunsho bridge, expressing prayers for God’s divine guidance, wisdom, and sound health for Hon. Gbenga Oyekola to achieve more for the community.
In his remarks, the Chief Whip of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, also stated that the bridge intervention was part of efforts to improve infrastructural development in his constituency.
He viewed it as a way of giving back to the community that voted him to represent them in the hallowed chamber of the Oyo assembly, especially considering the importance of the road that passes through the bridge.
“When I was contacted by the community, I could not turn down their request. They drew my attention to it, and we quickly swung into action. People gave us this mandate, and we must reciprocate whenever they need us,” he affirmed.
