Oyo lawmaker, Hon. Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman, hosted a New Year’s Eve gathering for People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, stakeholders, local executives, ward chairmen, youth leaders, women leaders, and others in Oyo East/West Constituency.

The event, held at Olorunpoto’s residence on Matron Scott’s Close, Araromi layout, Oyo township, marked a unique interaction between the state assemblyman and party members.

It provided an opportunity for fruitful discussions on legislative achievements, post-election victories, and constituents’ expectations.

Addressing the gathering, Alhaji Sarafadeen Oyedele Oloyo, the PDP party chairman in Oyo West local government, commended the lawmaker for his proactive legislative efforts, leading to dividends of democracy in Oyo East and West constituency.

Oloyo praised Olorunpoto’s productive partnership with Governor Seyi Makinde and urged continued support from party leaders and executives for excellent representation.

Hon. Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman expressed gratitude for the support that contributed to his resounding victory in the last general elections.

As the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, he highlighted collaborative efforts with Hon. Gbenga Oyekola to refurbish a Grade A customary court in Oyo, emphasizing its modern amenities commissioned on October 16th, 2023.

The lawmaker detailed his legislative initiatives, including a motion addressing waste disposal in Oyo East/West local government areas to prevent environmental pollution, drainage blockage, and disease outbreaks.

He criticized the Mottanai recycling practices, illegal impounding of waste collector trucks, and unchecked powers to dismiss waste operators.

Olorunpoto outlined partnerships with FERMA on road improvements, motions for the completion of projects such as the Awe Silo in Oyo East and Atiba F.M.

He assured constituents of the renovation and completion of the LAUTECH annex in Oyo Hospital within six months, with the necessary budgetary approval.

Expressing commitment to local politics, Olorunpoto pledged ongoing support for the party and vowed to maintain a conducive relationship with constituents.

He criticized the sub-standard Irepo-Owode road commissioned by the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi and highlighted plans for their reconstruction under the 2024 budget.

After financial donations to each of the 20 wards in Oyo East/West State constituency, Hon. Olorunpoto received appreciation from Oyo East party chairman Hon. Sakiru Ojo, who encouraged continued support for the party’s growth.

Former Speaker Rt Hon Atilola Olawale Maruff and other leaders praised Olorunpoto’s productive performance, endorsing regular meetings with stakeholders and party executives every three months.

Leaders commended and urged Governor Seyi Makinde to purchase a new refuse collector’s vehicle for the local government.

In closing remarks, the party youth leader and women leaders applauded Olorunpoto for his active roles, urging him to create a database for effective empowerment and employment opportunities for youths and women in the constituency.

They commended his quality leadership roles and initiatives. They equally called for increased support for Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu’s leadership of the Federal Constituency.
