Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, expressed profound appreciation for Governor Seyi Makinde’s unveiling of the 2024 budget, eloquently titled “Budget of Economic Recovery.”

The commendation echoed through the hallowed chambers as Hon. Oyekola who represents Atiba State constituency articulated the significance of the proposed budget and its potential impact on the state’s socio-economic landscape.

Reflecting on the governor’s commendable track record during his inaugural tenure, Omituntun 1.0, Hon. Oyekola conveyed a sense of optimism for what he termed “Omituntun 2.0.” His words resonated with gratitude for the transformative strides made in converting Emmanuel Alayande University into a comprehensive university of education, marking a substantial leap in the state’s academic landscape

However, the Chief Whip’s commendation wasn’t solely a gesture of praise; it was also a call to action. Hon. Oyekola directed the governor’s attention to the newly constructed Ibadan-Oyo-Ilorin-Ogbomoso road, underscoring the importance of safeguarding students from Emmanuel Alayande University who traverse this route. He urged the governor to implement proactive measures ensuring the safety and security of these students.

Notably, Hon. Oyekola lauded Governor Makinde for the initiation of the light-up project during Omituntun 1.0. Drawing attention to its transformative effects, he emphasized how the project not only contributed to a reduction in crime but also spurred economic growth by enabling businesses to operate safely into the evening.

Urging the governor to sustain this positive momentum, he appealed for continued financial support to the ministries of works, public transport, and energy, recognizing their pivotal roles in advancing infrastructural development.

In a detailed plea, Hon. Oyekola highlighted specific road projects that demand urgent attention within the Oyo township, including the Oroki/Erelu/Mogaji road, the Gedu/Isokun/Owode road, aswel as Idi-igba/Ilora junction to akinmorin and Awe.

These, he argued, are vital arteries requiring immediate intervention for the overall benefit of the community.

Expanding his advocacy, the Chief Whip directed the governor’s focus to the healthcare sector, specifically addressing the needs of Lautech Hospital Oyo annex. Urging increased attention to staffing and the provision of necessary equipment, he emphasized the critical role the healthcare facility plays in delivering essential services to the community.

As the assembly resonated with nods of agreement, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola’s comprehensive address not only commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his leadership but also laid out a detailed roadmap for transformative development within the constituency.
