As part of measures to reposition markets for improved productivity and viable commerce, the Honourable Commissioner for Trade, Investment, and Cooperatives in Oyo state, Otunba Demola Ojo has hosted the new Consultant in charge of Gbagi market in Ibadan, to chart a new way forward.

This was as the Commissioner assured that necessary support needed for proper repositioning of Gbagi market and other major markets across the state would be given to the consultant, Asia Group of Companies.

Otunba Ojo gave the ministry’s assurances today February 2, while playing host to the Consultant, Engineer Abduljelil Adekunle Kareem.

The commissioner equally noted that ministry’s support will enable the consultant restrategize on ways to improve on revenue generation into Government’s coffers.

He added that the market demography which include information regarding numbers of traders and stalls in the market as well as details of their enumeration as operators in the market would be handed to the company in order to accelerate the process data gathering for proper planning.

Lamenting the current state of Gbagi market, the commissioner disclosed that part of the market repositioning include but not limited to reconstruction of the structures in the such as ultra modern management office with toilets and other beffiting facilities.

While assuring that government was putting already putting in place, task force for the purpose of enforcement, the Commissioner equally disclosed that all issues relating to activities of hawkers obstructing motorists and causing traffic gridlock around the market would be properly addressed under the new arrangement with the management consultant.

In his words the Commissioner said: “Oyo state now has a new management consultant, Afia Group of Companies and we expect immediate action because Governor Seyi Makinde means serious business under the Sustainable Development Agenda.

” The state government is very committed to repositioning that particular Gbagi market among other major markets in the state in order to optimize our prospects for improved revenue generation while helping traders in these markets expand their opportunities via the data gathered.

“At the ministry level, I can assure that all the needed support to help the consultant achieve on their mandate will be provided and we hope that at the end of the day, it is going to be a win win situation for both the government and traders in the market.”

In his brief remark, the Chief Executiv Officer of Afia Group of Companies, Engineer Abduljelyl Adekunle Kareem, expressed gratitude to the government of Oyo state through the ministry of Trade, for the confidence reposed the company for the repositioning of Gbagi market.

Engr. Abduljelyl assured that Oyo State internally generated revenue (IGR) would be improved upon in line with the Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision for economic expansion and improved IGR particularly at the Bola Ige International Market popularly known as Gbagi market as the company was set to hit the ground running immediately.

He equally assured that his company would work collaboratively with all necessary government agencies for a holistic approach to repositioning the market for viable commercial activities in the state.

Engr. Abduljelyl therefore, urged traders in the market to cooperate with the the company to enable the Makinde led administration fulfil its electioneering promises of making the Oyo state an investment destination for both local and global investors.
