In a bid to bridge the digital divide and equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age, the Oyo State Government through the State Agency for Youth Development has trained over 100 In-school Youth in digital training skills
The 2-day training was held at the Local Government House, Secretariat, Ibadan.
During the trains sessions, facilitators offered participants the first hands-on session in Web Development, digital marketing essentials, graphics design, as well as building artificial Intelligence as each participant was eager to harness the power of technology on innovation and creativity.
According to the Youth Agency Chairman in his welcome address, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, the in-school digital training was part of the strategic efforts to boost the state’s digital economy and enhance the capacity of youths in Oyo state towards leveraging on the emerging global market, innovation, and creativity to navigate through.
“By Prioritizing In-school training on digital skills, the government can empower young people with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to succeed in the digital age”
He, however, commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE, for approving the proposal towards providing the intensive training needed for the pacesetter Youths in acquiring digital skills that have a profound impact on a student’s future, not only can it improve their academic performance and career prospects, but it can also enhance their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
” In today’s digital age, it’s imperative that young people acquire the digital skills necessary to succeed in the workforce and navigate the online world safely and effectively, this is why in-school training on digital skills is essential.” Adebowale said.
He added that graduates of the training program will also receive government-backed e-certificates and the opportunity for each participant to showcase their projects and businesses.
Also, the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Agency for Youths Development, Mrs. N.B Olayinka-Muraina, in her brief remarks, lauded the participants for their comfort, eloquence, and emotional intelligence with rapt attention.
She added that the in-school training shall help to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that all participants, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, have access to the same opportunities and resources.
Equally, in his goodwill message, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Students, Hon. Dideoluwa Victor Olojede, appreciated the Executive Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, for approving the intensive digital training. He charged the participants to be focused on every step of the training, for them to maximize the rare opportunity as one of the lucky participants.
During the opening session on Friday, the resource person and facilitator, Mr. Jacob Daramola, demonstrated the creativity embedded in Web development, enabling the participants to visualize their ideals in the real world.
However, Miss Precious Lijoka also took the second session on digital marketing essentials where the participants were drilled on the rudiments of digital marketing enthusiasm
At the ground finale of the events, Mrs. Emeruwa Grace guided the participants on Graphic design through the process of selecting templates, branding, communication messages, model canvas, and content strategy analysis, as well as tapping into audience insight.
At the end of the training, attendees were able to run fully personal skit videos, advertisements, web development, and appreciation to the State government for the laudable, impactful training.
