Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has named his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, as the Acting First Lady following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.

The announcement occurred during a condolence visit from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, along with other dignitaries in Uyo on Friday.

In a heartfelt tribute, Governor Eno remembered his late wife as his “greatest supporter and toughest critic,” reflecting on their deep bond throughout their marriage.

“I married her at 19, and I was 22. I called her Oluwa-Kemi because she was truly a gift from God. We faced many challenges together, and her loss is irreplaceable,” he stated.

To ensure continuity in the First Lady’s office and uphold the projects initiated by his late wife, particularly the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), Governor Eno introduced Mrs. Obareki to assume the responsibilities of the First Lady.

“To sustain the Office of the First Lady and continue my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to fulfill these duties. She will collaborate closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare,” he explained.

The governor expressed confidence in his daughter’s capability to carry on her mother’s legacy and maintain the values established through the First Lady’s initiatives.

During the visit, Senator Oluremi Tinubu commended Governor Eno’s decision, emphasizing it as a meaningful way to honor Pastor Patience Eno’s memory. She noted that this appointment reflects practices seen globally, including in the United States, and expressed faith in Helen Eno Obareki’s potential success in the role.

Senator Tinubu also encouraged Helen, stating, “Your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing. It’s a blessing that your mom’s colleagues and the Vice President’s wife are here to support you. I believe God will guide you, and you will achieve even more than your mother, granting you good health.”

Additionally, Governor Eno humorously addressed rumors about remarrying, dismissing the notion during a visit from Senate President Godswill Akpabio. “I’m not thinking of marrying again anytime soon,” he joked, adding, “I don’t have the money for another bride price.”
