At the 2024 Democracy Day Symposium organized by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Oyo State Chapter, experts called for urgent economic diversification to address Nigeria’s pressing economic challenges.

Held in Ibadan, the symposium focused on the theme “Economic Policies: Governance Perspectives in Managing Nigeria’s Monetary and Fiscal Tools.”

Dr. Oluwatoyese Oyetade, a Senior Lecturer from the department of economics at KolaDaisi University, emphasized the need for increased investment in agriculture, a sector that once served as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy.

Dr. Oyetade argued that reducing dependence on the oil sector and stopping international borrowing could significantly enhance the country’s economic stability.

Political Analyst Mr. Michael Adebayo and Financial Expert Dr. Bolaji Gbengbeleku also contributed to the discussion, stressing the importance of controlling inflation and reducing governance costs to improve the nation’s economic health.

The event was graced by the presence of Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo, National President and Chairman of the ICSAN Council, represented by Deputy Registrar Mrs. Akudazie Ndugbu.

Mrs. Ekundayo urged professionals to foster economic growth through transparency, integrity, and accountability.

Mrs. Faoziah Ayobami Oluokun ACIS, Chairman of ICSAN Oyo State Chapter, welcomed participants, highlighting the symposium’s significance in celebrating Nigeria’s democratic journey and reflecting on governance’s role in economic development.

She reiterated ICSAN’s dedication to promoting good governance and professional excellence, calling for robust economic policies to steer the nation toward sustainable growth.

Notable attendees included former Oyo State House of Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Bola Fawole and Paramount FM General Manager Mr. Akinyinka Akintola.

The symposium marked ICSAN’s commitment to fostering effective governance structures and supporting Nigeria’s economic progress.
