The leadership of the Polytechnic of Ibadan Student Union Government, led by Comrade Oyekan Tobiloba Emmanuel, alongside faculty, departmental, and indigenous association presidents, has formally endorsed Oluwaseun Olufade for Ibadan North Chairman and Sunday Abiola (Shomolu) as the Ward 11 Councilorship candidate.

This unified support reflects the PDP’s influence in the institution and the Seyi Makinde-led administration’s substantial contributions to education development in Oyo State.

In a resounding display of solidarity, the student leadership highlighted Governor Seyi Makinde’s dedication to educational progress.

They cited recent initiatives such as providing buses to state institutions, including the Polytechnic of Ibadan. They emphasized that endorsing PDP candidates was a natural extension of their gratitude for the Governor’s commitment to student welfare and institutional advancement.

According to the student Union leadership, Governor Seyi Makinde has greatly contributed to the institution’s development, prioritizing student welfare. For instance, the recent donation of buses to all state institutions in Oyo State, including the Polytechnic of Ibadan, exemplifies his support.

They emphasized that due to the Governor’s contributions, any candidate under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would be accepted.

An intriguing aspect of the endorsement is the support for the PDP Councilorship candidate, Hon. Abiola Sunday, popularly known as Shomolu, who currently serves as the councillor of Ward 11 where the Polytechnic of Ibadan is located.

Hon. Abiola Sunday previously chaired the committee on work and transport in Ibadan North Local Government and presently chairs the committee on education and social development.

The student leadership also seized the opportunity to thank Governor Seyi Makinde for appointing Dr. Lasisi as the rector and Mr. Ogunjimi as the new registrar of the institution.

They described the appointments as fitting and appreciated the Governor for not imposing candidates on them, recognizing him as the people’s Governor.

Of particular significance is the endorsement of Hon. Abiola Sunday (Shomolu), the incumbent councilor for Ward 11 and a former student of the Polytechnic of Ibadan.

Student leaders praised his exemplary representation and track record, citing his previous roles within the student body and his performance in office.

They noted that Hon. Sunday Abiola, a Polytechnic of Ibadan graduate, held various positions during his student days, including ex-officio of the National Association of Marketing Students (NAMS), sports director of the Faculty of Business and Communications Studies (FBCS), NANC chairman for the Southwest, and stakeholder chairman for the TPI 2019 set.

Hon. Sunday Abiola expressed gratitude for the endorsement, pledging to uphold the trust placed in him and ensure continued quality representation.

He urged students to turn out in large numbers to support PDP candidates in the upcoming local government elections.
